Mother's Day

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is about flowers, chocolates and time spent with family. It is also very much about yummy food. Regardless of how you choose to celebrate Mom on her special day, it is important to make sure she is well and deliciously fed.  If taking Mom out for brunch isn’t possible this year, why not prepare a special homemade feast for her? Many mothers appreciate a leisurely breakfast in bed, so be up early to get things going before she wakes up. But (please!) keep it quiet in the kitchen so Mom can make the most of her well-deserved rest.

Moms have had their special day on the calendar since 1911, when some U.S. states and Canadian provinces began celebrating Mother’s Day. It wasn’t until 1922 that Mexico joined in the celebration. Mother’s Day has since evolved into a global celebration of motherhood.

Start Mom’s special day off with a Watermelon Tomato Cooler made with kombucha and fresh fruit, a fizzy and refreshing, alcohol-free cocktail, and follow up with one of these great breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes.

Grab the waffle maker and some pumpkin puree to make these Pumpkin Waffles with Berries.  If you don’t have a waffle maker on hand, the batter is great for pancakes. Or, if sweet breakfasts are not your Mom’s thing, try this savoury Baja Breakfast Burrito loaded with veggies and beans. It is sure to please!

If Mom likes to sleep in, we have lots of delectable lunch and dinner options. For a hearty lunch, we suggest Cucumber Blueberry Salad with its unique flavor pairing, followed by egg-based  Red Pepper Vidalia Onion Strata. For dinner, Mom and the kids are sure to appreciate Bell Pepper Tacos or individualized Bell Pepper Pizzas

An eye-pleasing table setting will help to put Mom in the mood for the meal. Place a tray of artfully cut fruit in the center of the table, or some fresh cut flowers.

Of course, Mother’s Day would not be complete without a little chocolate. Treat Mom to indulgent Chocolate Avocado Mousse with Hazelnut Crisps and Berries. You are sure to make her day - especially if you do the dishes!
